Career
Paul is a partner in Akin’s Irvine and Los Angeles offices, specializing in intellectual property (IP) litigation, including patent disputes, trade secret misappropriation, and licensing conflicts. He has extensive experience in both federal district court trials and international tribunals, such as the International Trade Commission (ITC) and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). Paul has also served as a pro bono prosecutor in numerous criminal cases and has led multiple jury trials.
His expertise lies in complex litigation involving multiple patents, jurisdictions, and counterclaims, as well as cases involving breach of confidentiality agreements and trade secret theft. Paul has been involved in disputes spanning various technology areas, including medical devices, cleantech, digital assets, software, genetic testing, pharmaceutical compounds, and more.
Beyond his litigation work, Paul has also handled patent and trademark application preparation and prosecution. He actively contributes to the intellectual property legal community as an instructor and conference organizer, focusing on litigation strategies and trial tactics.
During his time in law school, Paul worked as an extern at the Department of Defense in the Office of the Assistant General Counsel for Intelligence and International Affairs at the Pentagon. He is also certified as a Pro Bono Publico Prosecutor for the State of California, volunteering in criminal cases regularly.
