Simpson Millar LLP is an ‘excellent‘ firm for advice on all matters relating to education. It advises clients on a number of specialist areas, such as SEND tribunals, discrimination matters and admissions. Led by public law expert Imogen Jolley, the practice is known for its high-profile judicial review work and it assists vulnerable clients and students with securing their education provisions. Sarah Woosey, who is singled out by clients for her expertise in community care law, heads up the team in Leeds. Elsewhere, Samantha Hale is expanding the Bristol team. Dan Rosenberg in London has specialist expertise in school exclusions. Angela Jackman is also recommended.
Simpson Millar LLP‘s human rights practice combines expertise in the specialist areas of education and community care work to provide clients with a niche offering. Overseen by Angela Jackman, the team handles Court of Protection matters and represents vulnerable clients in access to care cases. Dan Rosenberg is highly rated by peers and is the key name for education-related human rights matters, while Oliver Studdert is a public law expert, who focuses on children’s rights and mental capacity work.
Simpson Millar LLP’s claimant-focused public law practice is led by Victoria Pogge von Strandmann, who recently took over following Oliver Studdert’s move to Irwin Mitchell. Recent engagements for Pogge von Strandmann, Chris Callender and associate Silvia Nicolaou Garcia include challenges against the Home Office and local authorities on behalf of vulnerable individuals (including children and elderly individuals), migrants under Dublin III legislation and victims of trafficking. Incapacitated individuals are often represented before the Court of Protection. Dan Rosenberg specialises in education sector issues; he was recently involved in a challenge to the use of isolation in schools. Aside from individual claimants, the team also represents charities as interveners in High Court cases.
