Career
Since 2001, Nils T. F. Schmid has worked as a German Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney at Boehmert & Boehmert, where he was a partner for more than 20 years.
He has extensive experience as a German and European representative for clients in all proceedings before the German Patent and Trademark Office, the European Patent Office and its Boards of Appeal, the Federal Patent Court, the competent regional courts and higher regional courts, as well as the Federal Court of Justice. He has worked as a patent law expert in patent infringement proceedings and advises clients on cooperation and/or development projects.
At the Université de Strasbourg (CEIPI), Nils T.F. Schmid lectures on how to prepare for the qualifying examination for European Patent Attorney (EQE). He also regularly holds seminars for the European Patent Academy of the European Patent Office to prepare technical examiners for the EQE.
He was President of UNION-IP from 2013 to 2015 and has been an Honorary President of the organization since 2017. He is the president of the Statutes Commission.
Nils Schmid is one of the five founding partners of SKM-IP.

Education
Nils T. F. Schmid completed his mechanical engineering studies at the Technical University of Karlsruhe and at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) with a focus on materials science and technical mechanics. He furthermore received a master’s degree (DEA) from the École Nationale Supérieure d’Arts et Metiers (ENSAM) in Paris in the field of development and conception of novel product categories.
