Career

Donny established his law firm, SHEYOPUTRA Law Office in Jakarta in 2011.

Prior to that he worked for a local law firm and a leading UK IP law firm and consulting company for more than six years, mostly in charge for anti-piracy and anti-counterfeiting department. In 2006 Donny was seconded to its Beijing Office for a month.

Donny then joined a leading computer software trading association as its representative for Indonesia for almost five years. His roles included speaking engagement to increase public awareness on copyright protection, government lobbying and coordinating anti-piracy program.

After obtaining his IP Attorney License since 2010, Donny established SHEYOPUTRA Law Office in 2011 and began his services on IP for local clients. Since then, he was invited to speak in a public discussion on the Copyright Law hosted by the Indonesian Parliament in 2015. It was than a year after the Copyright Law was enacted and then opened for criticism. For many copyright and trademark cases, Donny has been involved by police to provide his expertise in identifying pirate / counterfeit goods.

Donny has been also requested by the National Police to speak about IP laws and technical aspects of raid actions for hundreds of police investigator who represent all police provincial commands in Indonesia. Those were hosted by the National Police to train their Crime Investigators at the Police Investigators Training Center as part of their annual program.

Donny has been maintaining his personal and professional relationship with all levels of police officers and Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DGIP). In early 2011 he was involved in providing capacity building for Civil Servant Investigators of DGIP. Further, Donny was also speaking for some IP events hosted by the US Commercial Services in Jakarta.

Education

In 1999 Donny completed his law degree from Airlangga University in Surabaya which is one of the most reputable universities in Indonesia. In 2001 Donny completed his Master of Law from Murdoch University in Western Australia.

As he loves studying and expanding his knowledge on military and defense, in 2011 Donny applied a scholarship from the Ministry of Defense. The scholarship application was granted and in 2012 Donny completed his Master of Defense Study majoring on Defense Management from the Indonesian Defense University and Cranfield University. As part of the scholarship, in April 2012 Donny completed his short course on Defense Resources Mangement from Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA, US.

Donny has completed many formal and informal courses to increase his skills, experience and networking.

Personal

Donny loves reading very much. His combination of working experience, skill and networking allows him to be very close to some Indonesian Army Generals who then invited him to speak about IP for military industries. Those opportunities allowed Donny to emphasize that IP protection is not just the need of private sectors but also for the Indonesian Armed Forces.

Leisure

As stated before, Donny loves reading books and is very interested to law, social politics, and obviously Indonesian history related to the Police and Armed Forces. Apart from spending his routine activities with his family every weekend, Donny always prioritizes purchasing new books for his private library at home. Music, traveling and swimming are also his hobbies.
