Career

Bart is founding partner of Stonewater. He obtained four master degrees, being Dutch civil law (University of Utrecht), law and economics (University of Utrecht), tax law (VU University Amsterdam) and technical business adminstration (Twente University). He has worked at corporate recovery and corporate finance for several years with KPMG and has subsequently worked as legal and tax partner with private equity firm Greenfield Capital Partners for over 15 years. Unlike most lawyers, he has financial acumen and is experienced as investor and board member. Given his vast transaction and financial experience, he heads Stonewater’s M&A and finance practice, which includes both litigation as well as (mainly complex or litigious) transactions, restructuring and advice. His thorough legal knowledge and experience also allowed him to become a cassation lawyer before the Dutch Supreme Court.

Stonewater B.V has a specialised practice that is often engaged by clients, ranging from individuals to Dutch and international companies, for commercial and corporate litigation, including proceedings before the Supreme Court. Practice co-head Bart Zandbergen, a cassation lawyer at the Supreme Court, representing clients not only in proceedings before the Supreme Court, but also before the district courts and courts of appeal, in shareholder disputes and litigation relating to acquisitions and financing arrangements.
