Career

Martin works principally in the Sheriff Court and has a fantastic work ethic. He believes in justice and fairness to all. He has a comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of criminal law. His knowledge of case law ensures that the right result occurs.

Martin has been a solicitor in private practice since 2000. During this time he has dedicated his professional career to representing clients facing criminal prosecution. Martin has successfully represented thousands of clients in the Sheriff courts throughout Scotland both at summary level and also before sheriff and juries.

This includes representing clients facing serious allegations of assault, theft, housebreaking, robbery, fraud and drugs charges as well as road traffic offences. For the last ten years Martin has defended many clients in respect of applications made under the proceeds of crime legislation- protecting assets with values of hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Martin has also provided advice and representation respect of a wide range of statutory offences including Trademark Infringements, Environmental Crime and Tax fraud. Since University Martin has a keen interest in environmental law, he assists clients who are charged or being investigated with crimes under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, Animal Health and Welfare Act 2006, Pollution and waste. He can advise you about your obligations and rights in what is a complex area of law. Business activities that may cause pollution or that pose another risk to the environment are regulated and you must ensure that you have appropriate authorisation for the activities your business carries out. He is fully aware of the powers of SEPA and can advise you accordingly.
