Career
Thomas Knierim defends companies and executives in criminal and regulatory proceedings of any kind. He provides legal representation for companies and holdings concerning cartel offences, corruption offences, tax offences as well as banking and capital market and bankrupcy offences. In addition, he is an expert for internal investigations, e.g. in cases of industry espionage, corruption, capital market offences, accounting fraud and other accounting offences and tax evasion. Thomas Knierim’s expertise runs to more than 20 years of cross-industry consulting and defence activities in criminal proceedings companies from the automotive industry and its suppliers, banks and financial services providers, construction, trade, medical technology, machine and plant construction, pharmaceutical, telecommunications, liberal professions, enterprises of the public sector, members of public authorities and media.
Thomas Knierim is the publisher for C.H.Beck’s News Service of Criminal Law, and also publisher and editor of the New Journal for Economic, Business and Criminal Tax Law (Neue Zeitschrift für Wirtschafts-, Unternehmens- und Steuerstrafrecht – NZWiSt). He is also member of the board of editors of the German Corporate Compliance Journal (Corporate Compliance Zeitschrift – CCZ).
Furthermore, Thomas Knierim teaches criminal law at the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg. He regularly publishes on issues of economic criminal law and insolvency law.

He is a member of the Criminal Law Committee of the Federal Bar Association (BRAK), a member of the Working Group for Criminal Law in the Association of German Lawyers (DAV), and a member of the Association of German Defence Lawyers.
Education
After studying law and completing his postgraduate judicial traineeship in Mainz, Thomas Knierim started his legal career as a public prosecutor at the public prosecutor’s office in Koblenz, special department for business crime. Since 1991 he practised law as an independent lawyer, since 1994 as a partner of Hoffmann & Knierim GbR, Mainz. Since 2003 Thomas Knierim is founding partner of Knierim & Kollegen Rechtsanwälte GbR, Mainz (formally: Knierim & Krug resp. Knierim | Huber).
