The main focus of his legal work is on public procurement law and EU state aid law. Wolfgang E. Trautner advises private and public companies as well as clients, especially in questions of public procurement (public procurement law) and state aid law. His main focus is on complex construction projects such as soccer stadiums and grid-bound supply systems (broadband, etc.).

The main focus of notarial work is on corporate law (establishment and purchase/sale of companies), inheritance law and real estate law with reference to public authorities (urban development contracts) as well as the preparation of powers of attorney for preventive medicine and living wills.
