Overview

Peter Isola is the Senior Partner of Gibraltar’s oldest law firm now known as Isolas LLP. Mr Isola is also the Chairman of the Fiduciary Group of Companies. He also holds appointments as a non-executive director of various regulated entities in the fields of banking, financial services, telecommunications, and gaming. He is a Commission Member of the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission. His areas of practice include Private Client, Financial Services (in particular banking and Insurance) and Internet Gaming. Mr Isola is Gibraltar’s contributor to Tolley’s “Planning and Administration of Offshore and Onshore Trusts” and Tolley’s “International Succession Laws”. He has advised and forms part of the Gambling Law review team which is advising Her Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar on significant changes to its Gambling laws as well as advising and being involved, over his career, in drafting Gibraltar’s taxation legislation, Foundation legislation, and legislation effecting the taxation and application of company and trust law to high net worth individuals.

Mr Isola is a former President of the Gibraltar Chamber of Commerce and former Vice Chairman of the Gibraltar Bar Council; He was called to the Bar of England and Wales and, subsequently to the Bar of Gibraltar in 1982. In 1985 he is also a Notary Public (since 1985). He is President of STEP (Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) Gibraltar Branch. Having graduated from Kingston University, Surrey, Peter, attended the Inns of Court School of Law as a member of the Inner Temple.

Gaming

Peter also specialises in gaming law and regulation and has been instrumental in the development of the law in this area. In addition to his advisory role, Peter is a director of various regulated entities involved in financial services including banking and insurance as well as telecoms and gaming.

Peter sits on the board of BetVictor Limited, one of Gibraltar’s longest established gaming companies; The Gibraltar Betting and Gaming Association (GBGA) UK Working Group, with respect to the Point of Consumption Tax as external legal advisor to BetVictor Limited.

Peter is also on the board of HM Government of Gibraltar’s Brexit Gaming Working Group, advising on related matters and attending meetings with the UK Gambling Commission and the UK Ministry of Culture Media and Sport, and is a member of the Gaming Review Group, which reported to the Minister on its vision for the continuing success of the gaming industry.

Trusts
As Chairman of the local branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, Peter has also addressed the annual Branch Chairmen Assembly of STEP in London.

Peter has, in conjunction with Adrian Pilcher, written the Gibraltar chapter of Private Client Tax – Jurisdictional Comparisons, published by the European Lawyer reference series. He is also Gibraltar’s contributor to Tottel Publishing’s Planning and Administration of Offshore and Onshore Trusts and International Succession Laws and in conjunction with Jonathan Garcia the Gibraltar Chapter of Insurance & Reinsurance for the same series.
