- Advised a public body in relation to a request by a trade union to be recognised for statutory collective bargaining purposes. The request was submitted in accordance with the legislation and required the client to consider strategically how best to respond. The client decided to reject the request for voluntary recognition and has subsequently engaged with follow up communications and meetings with officials of the relevant union.
- Advised a well-known national charity on a very interesting project. The charity had over a period of time developed a non-core business based upon providing social housing – in effect, this arm of the organisation was a housing association/registered provider. The charity and the housing association arm agreed that the latter would separate from the charity and become independent.
- Acted for a fire service since late 2019 on an ongoing, complex “trade dispute” with the trade union which represents the uniformed workforce – the Fire Brigades Union (FBU). The issue primarily concerns changes to shift patterns for firefighters, working hours when the employees work away from their home fire station, and obligations of firefighters to transport PPE.

- Supporting the Community Gateway Association on all of its HR, employment and pensions issues. In particular, it has advised the Community Gateway Association on a complex employment tribunal claim brought by a zero hours worker. The client successfully defended the claim and it was reported in the press. It was the first reported case to consider pregnancy discrimination in the context of measures introduced by an employer in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
- Supporting GreenSquareAccord on all of its HR/ employment issues. Over the past year much of the support and advice it has given has been around Covid-19 and its impact on their workforce and customers, in particular the mandating of Covid-19 vaccinations.
