Career

Mr. Rotman is the leader of the firm’s Litigation, International Arbitration & Bankruptcy department. In addition to his long career in Commercial Justice, he has participated in the most complex litigation cases faced by Bruchou.

Since joining the Firm, Mr. Rotman has provided legal advice in numerous highly complex dispute resolutions (such as litigation, domestic and international arbitration, company law conflicts, bankruptcy proceedings). More specifically, he has specialized in disputes under different rules (ICC, Arbitration Court of the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange, among others). In addition, he was appointed as arbitrator by the ICC in extremely salient trials. Mr. Rotman is part of the list of arbitrators compiled by the Mercado Abierto Electrónico (MAE) and the Centro Empresarial de Mediación y Arbitraje (CEMA).

Mr. Rotman developed an outstanding career sitting in the commercial courts of Buenos Aires. After being designated law clerk of a first instance commercial court and of Chamber D of the Commercial Court of Appeals, he was appointed commercial judge in 1985 and promoted in 1991 to judge of the National Commercial Court of Appeals, over which he presided in 1996, 2002 and 2003. He was also elected to the Executive Committee and Board of the Association of National Magistrates and Court Officers.

Mr. Rotman has taught commercial law in the Universidad de Buenos Aires, the Universidad de Buenos Aires and the Universidad de Belgrano.

He has also given several lectures on commercial law and particularly on insolvency law, participating actively in national and international conferences and seminars. Among many others, he lectured for the Professional Council of Economic Sciences in a seminar organized by the Argentine Association of Studies on Insolvency on the “Judicial Experience on the Management of a Bankrupt Company”, and for a seminar organized by Deloitte-Haskins & Sells on “Intervention and Judicial Management of Companies”. He led the seminar on the Commercial Courts’ case law on banking responsibility and related issues, organized by the Universidad Austral within its post-graduate seminars of business law”. He has also participated in the periodic seminars on changes in business law, organized by the “Argentine Institute for the Development of Entrepreneurs”, lectured on the system of legal costs and fees in pre bankruptcy insolvency proceedings for the Argentine Foundation for the Development of Sciences and discussed on the legal view on credit risk for the Association of Banks of the Republic of Argentina.

He participated in the special program on law and economics for judges and professors of law, sponsored by the Tinker Foundation, and organized by the Law School of the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella.

Mr. Rotman was appointed by the Federal Government in 1997 as member of the Commission for the Reform of the Argentine Bankruptcy Law.
