Position

Sarah is a Principal Associate in the Birmingham office. Sarah joined Weightmans in 2016 and having qualified as a solicitor in 2001, she has over 22 years post qualification experience in clinical negligence and insurance litigation to include cases involving claims validation issues. She specialises in defendant clinical negligence litigation for NHS Trusts and NHS Resolution, advising clients on high value and complex claims within the healthcare sector. She has substantial advocacy experience having been called to the Bar in 1998 and regularly attends Court on behalf of clients.

Sarah handles a wide range of cases of utmost severity to include birth injury and brain injury cases, psychiatric damage, neurosurgery cases such as cauda equina syndrome and vascular matters resulting in amputation/stroke cases with values often exceeding £10 million. She is experienced in dealing with cases involving the vast majority of medical specialisms to include paediatric matters and cases of particular sensitivity.

In addition to utilising various forms of ADR to facilitate pragmatic resolution, Sarah also has extensive trial experience to include reported High Court cases. Sarah has successfully defended a number of cases at trial resulting in significant savings for the defendant. Sarah’s advocacy experience means that she is able to work sensitively with NHS Trust factual witnesses to develop their confidence and to prepare them for trial.

Sarah has a particular interest in legal knowledge and practice development and regularly delivers training to clients and fee earners on a variety of practice and healthcare related topics.
