Career

María López specializes in commercial and contractual matters, including designing distribution strategies and reviewing research and collaboration agreements with competitors, and designing and implementing compliance and training programs.

She advises and represents companies in proceedings with the European Commission and the Spanish competition authorities, including assisting clients during inspections, when submitting leniency applications and in settlement procedures. She has long-standing expertise litigating in her specialty area.

She is an expert in advising on corporate matters, particularly in the rail industry where she worked as an in-house lawyer from 2003 to 2004, and in the biotechnology industry, where she headed a corporate legal department from 2006 to 2009. She also worked in the EU competition and regulated market law group of a leading law firm in Benelux.

She is a member of the Madrid Bar Association and the Spanish Association for the Defense of Competition. In 2020, she was named non-governmental advisor to the International Competition Network (ICN) on behalf of the Spanish Markets and Competition Comission.

She lectures in the Master in European Union Law and in the Master in Regulated Sectors Law at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, and lectures at the Institute of Stock Exchange Studies (IEB). Previously, she lectured at other Spanish and international universities, such as the Erasmus University Rotterdam.
