US Looks to Amsterdam

NetherlandsCorporate/Commercial Law
American institutions are increasingly looking to invest in Europe, says a Dutch merchant bank. Amsterdam based Kempen & Co is opening an office in New York in response to demand from US investment institutions.

According to a study conducted by research bureau Technimetrics, US investors rate the Dutch market the most attractive in continental Europe. After the UK, Japan and Canada it is the most popular place in the world for US investment. In 1994 Americans invested Dfl 30.7 billion in Dutch stocks, almost three times the amount they invested in German shares.

Technimetrics attributes the popularity of the Dutch market to the attractive price earnings ratios of Dutch stocks, the number of multinationals in the Netherlands and the clarity of Dutch accounting principles.
