As Canada continues to show how welcoming immigrants
remains an important policy despite the restrictions in place due
to coronavirus, the opposite is true in the United
States.
Donald Trump has tweeted his intention to sign an
Executive Order to entirely suspend immigration to the US. He puts
the decision down to the need to stop the spread of COVID-19, but
also to protect American jobs, a familiar slogan from Trump's
campaign to become president, often repeated during his time in the
White House.
In contrast to Canada's attempts to remain
as open as possible during the crisis, Trump appears to be
using it to push his political agenda with the US presidential
election looming.
