Position

Partner that leads Guerrero Olivos´ mining practice and also our venture capital and private investment funds departments. He assists local and international companies in mining related matters, including corporate and M&A, joint ventures, regulatory, financing, project finance, litigation, contracts and technical mining work.

Career

He is Professor of the course “Emprendimiento y Venture Capital”, from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile´s Master in Law.

He was speaker at “XV Jornadas de Derecho de Minería”, from Universidad de Chile (2017).

Also, he worked in the Chinese law firm Global Law Office as foreign associate.

He is an active member in the Chilean- Pacific Foundation. He also keenly participates in SONAMI (Mining National Corporation) as a legal consultant in regulatory matters and he is chairman of the Mining Committee of CESCO and is a permanent advisor for Asian investors regarding mining and energy projects.

He is Director of Administradora Mater, Administradora Bridge and Empresa Eléctrica Blanco, Aaktei Energía S.A., Lácteos Matthei and Colegio San Lorenzo.

Education

He graduated from Universidad Diego Portales School of Law with honors (2001) and has a Master of Laws in Chinese Law (LL.M.), from the National University of Singapore (2005).

With ‘extensive knowledge of the current mining legislation’, Guerrero Olivos‘ eight-member mining practice acts for domestic and international mining clients, as well as private investment funds. The department is experienced in a range of mining areas, such as copper, lithium, gold, saltpetre, iodine and potassium. Clients additionally benefit from the team’s ability to leverage the firm’s regulatory mining, environmental law, corporate and financing expertise. Its specialisms also encompass local community issues, mining judicial work, and project acquisitions and financings, as well as royalty and streaming agreements, joint ventures, and M&A deals. The mining practice is led by mining-related project development and finance expert Pedro LyonMarco Zavala assists mining companies and investment funds with transactions and regulatory issues; and the wide-ranging practice of Benjamín Pérez includes mineral exploration, project development, mining agreements, M&A, and regulatory and environmental issues. At associate level, Sebastian Mozó advises on mining-related project development, due diligence, and regulatory and environmental aspects. In a notable boost to the team, María Paz Pulgar and Ignacio Aswani joined the firm in August 2023 (as partner and associate respectively) from Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU & Uría. Fielding lawyers who ‘always look for a practical solution’, Guerrero Olivos‘ client portfolio comprises domestic and foreign venture capital investors, entrepreneurs and start-ups, as well as accelerators and incubators. The nine-strong team advises at all stages of venture capital work, from the formation of start-ups and structuring of funds, to initial financing rounds and follow-on investments. It also assists with exits, M&A and IPOs, as well as stock plans, internationalisation plans, licensing, distribution and partner agreements, and IP, personal data and cybersecurity issues. Clients additionally benefit from the firm’s cooperative alliance with Chile Global Ventures, an accelerator that is part of a community of over 75 institutions worldwide. Highlights include advising Obralink, a start-up that developed a construction project-related autonomous data collection system, on its financing round. The venture capital department is led by Pedro Lyon, who ‘explains complex matters simply’, and who is experienced in financing rounds and international corporate structuring. The team also includes Benjamín Ferrada, who, in addition to dispute resolution,  assists with venture capital structuring. At senior associate level, Francisca Martínez specialises in M&A and venture capital transactions, while Diego Rodríguez, who advises on investment rounds, rejoined the firm from Morrison Foerster’s Miami office in early 2023.
