Kees van de Meent is partner of the firm and co-head of the Insolvency and Restructuring team. He is active in restructuring and insolvency, as well as international asset tracing and recovery and civil fraud litigation. He has been involved as bankruptcy trustee for more than 25 years in various high-profile and complex insolvencies. He also acts as counsel to companies facing financial difficulties. In addition he has experience with pre-packs, both as counsel to the company and as court-appointed administrator.


Before the formation of Florent, Kees was a partner at Höcker.

Kees is member of INSOL International, INSOL Europe, INSOLAD (the Dutch Association of Insolvency Lawyers), NVRII/NACILL (the Netherlands Association for Comparative and International Insolvency Law), the IBA and the Turnaround Management Association. He is also the exclusive Dutch member of FraudNet, the global network operating under the ICC to provide fraud victims with a global service to respond to fraud. In addition he is chairman of the Asset Recovery Chamber of the Institute for Financial Crime (IFFC), the Netherlands national institute for innovation of investigation, co-operation and education in the field of combatting financial crime.

Florent has a multi-disciplinary approach to restructuring and insolvency, leveraging the strength of the wider firm’s M&A, litigation and banking and finance experts. It has a substantial asset recovery practice, which makes it well placed to handle bankruptcy proceedings, fraud litigation and financial fraud investigations. Team members often act as court-appointed trustees and administrators in bankruptcy and suspension of payment cases. Hanneke De Coninck heads the practice alongside Kees van de Meent. Pieter van Uchelen joined as partner from Simmons & Simmons.

Florent is perhaps best known for its work in cross-border asset recovery, undertaking several such cases as either local or lead counsel. Additionally the firm regularly pursues civil fraud claims for clients, in addition to handling several internal investigations. The team is led by Kees van de Meent, who focuses primarily on international asset recovery cases, while Jurgen van den Heuvel is a notable figure at associate level.
