Career

KSB partner Václav Rovenský has specialized primarily in energy construction projects and related agenda for the past 25 years. He has participated in many pioneering energy projects in the Czech Republic. Among others, he advised on the financing, construction, commissioning and operation of ALPIQ’s coal and gas fired power facilities (with the overall installed capacity exceeding  500 MW) in the Czech Republic, assisted Arcelor Mittal on the spin-off of its energy division in the Czech Republic, and more recently, advised one of the consortiums in the process of preparing bids in respect of Czech law issues (construction law, transportation law, financing and public procurement) relating to the D4 Motorway, which was the first PPP financing of a motorway after almost 20 years since the last attempt in the Czech Republic.

Václav also advises private entities, utility providers and international investors on various contractual and regulatory aspects of Czech law, in particular on renewables such as biomass combustion, solar and wind energy. He is also highly valued by the firm’s clients for his construction law skills and experience.

Václav has been a contributor for the jurisdiction of the Czech Republic to various international energy publications and has been recognized as an energy law expert by key ranking agencies, including Chambers&Partners, IFLR1000 and Legal 500.

The team is jointly led by Václav Rovenský, who specialises in energy construction projects and related regulatory concerns, and Tomáš Sequens, who handles the environmental elements of commercial transactions. Sylvie Sobolová is a notable member of the group and covers public procurement and state aid work.

Kocián Šolc Balaštík’s real estate practice has recently been active handling a range of development projects, the construction of solar parks, and the sale and acquisition of multiple administrative buildings in Prague. Regularly engaged by hotel developers and logistics and warehouse companies, the team has strength in advising architectural studios on contract negotiation and project documentation. The group is co-led by Jiří Horník, who primarily advises real estate investment companies, and Václav Rovenský, who focuses on highway construction mandates and the management of hotels.
