Career

Michael Woller joined Schoenherr in 2008. As partner and co-head of the intellectual property & technology practice he specialises in the full range of intellectual property law with a focus on patents, trademarks and unfair competition, handling both, litigation and non-contentious matters. Michael is heavily involved in cross-border matters, particularly in the CEE region, and assists clients in handling large international trademark portfolios. He is tech-savvy and active in patent litigation and non-contentious (e.g. employee inventor remuneration) matters. Prior to joining Schoenherr, Michael worked in the Austrian marketing communications department of a global IT player. Michael holds a teaching position for international and European trademark law at the University of Vienna/Austria. Furthermore, he is editor of the IP and competition law section of the well-known Austrian business law journal ecolex and regularly writes for law journals, contributes to standard commentaries and co-authors books in the IP and technology fields.

The team at Schoenherr (Schönherr Rechtsanwälte) provides a wide array of non-contentious advice and helps clients protect and enforce their trademarks, patents, copyrights and designs up to the Austrian Supreme Court and at a European level. It also maintains a large IP rights administration practice. The process of generational changeover, which has been ongoing for several years, has now come to a close. Eminent IP expert Guido Kucsko, long at the helm of the practice, retired in February 2022, passing the baton to Christian Schumacher and Michael Woller. Key lawyer Dominik Hofmarcher joined the partner ranks in February 2022.

The intellectual property and technology group at Schoenherr (Schönherr Rechtsanwälte) excels in the whole spectrum of TMT-related work with a particular strength in advising technology start-ups, often in relation to new business models or technology agreements.
