Position

Elías F. Bestani specializes in shipping and maritime law, insurance and reinsurance in addition to the resolution of complex disputes. He advises clients on ship-finance, ship-building and ship-purchase contracts and in the merchant marine and cabotage regimes. He has experience in the structuring of LNG operations and has negotiated time and bareboat charters and volume contracts. He advises clients in marine pollution matters, collisions and in the arrest of ships. Elías also advises clients in insurance—marine and non-marine— and reinsurance, including claims and regulations. He has advised clients in the setting up of insurance companies, their investment regime, portfolio transfers and in strategic distribution arrangements. He has handled complex litigation, including cases involving sovereign immunity and oil price disputes, heard by the Argentine Supreme Court. He also advises clients on cross-border litigation.

Career

He was seconded to Greenberg Traurig, LLP for more than a year, where he gained experience in international corporate transactions and mergers and acquisitions.

Education

With an undergraduate degree in Law from the Universidad Católica Argentina, Buenos Aires in 1999, Elías went on to receive an LL.M. from Columbia University in the City of New York in 2003.
