Position: Ngo Thanh Tung is a founding and senior partner of VILAF.  Tung served as Managing Partner of VILAF for nine years.  As a top leader of VILAF, Tung has transformed VILAF from an affiliate of Clifford Chance to the most respected independent commercial law firm in Vietnam today. Tung is a key figure in the success and growth of VILAF. He is well-known and respected for his “high degree of professionalism” in servicing clients. 

Tung has assisted many giant foreign investors in establishing their businesses in Vietnam since the country opened its doors to foreign investment in the 1990s.  Tung has advised several international companies in M&A, corporate and commercial matters related to Vietnamese laws, as well as P&I Clubs on maritime cases. 

Tung is highly respected and has been identified by various well-known international legal magazines, such as Legal 500Chambers as one of the leading lawyers in Vietnam.  Tung was recognized by Asia Law & Practice as one of the finest leading lawyers in Asia.

VILAF's team handles significant arbitration and litigation for national and international clients. Ngo Thanh Tung, who heads the firm's Ho Chi Minh City office, handles work including vessel arrests, as well as disputes concerning real estate investments. Pham Si Hai Quynh, who is also based in Ho Chi Minh City, is a key name for disputes with maritime elements and is representing the owners of Duyen Hai 1 Thermal Power Plant in a dispute with the operators of a ship which collided with the port, damaging the coal unloader, as well as handling other matters concerning property investments and tax litigation. In Hanoi, Nguyen Duy Linh handles construction and engineering disputes, among others, and is representing a number of leading names in the sector from elsewhere in Asia.     On 6/20/2012, the National Assembly voted to adopt the Law on Price (the "LOP") in response to the public demand for an effective legal framework to control price manipulation from dominant enterprises such as gasoline, electricity, etc. The law will take effect from 01/01/2013 and repeal Ordinance No. 40/2002/PL-UBTVQH10 dated 26/4/2002 of the National Assembly Standing Committee (the "Ordinance"), which is conceived as outdated and containing certain provisions contravening the WTO’s regulation. This article describes the main features of the law and provides some insight into its potential impacts on the Vietnamese economy.
