Portugal > Insolvency and restructuring

Sought after by national and international creditors and debtors in various stages of financial distress, Cuatrecasas‘ ‘multidisciplinary‘ department is well versed in the entire spectrum of restructuring and insolvency mandates. Refinancing, distressed M&A, loan-to-own strategies, and insolvency proceedings are all key areas of activity for the group, which is under the joint leadership of Manuel Requicha Ferreira and Miguel de Almada. Ferreira possesses a strong background in banking, finance, and capital markets, while Almada leads the litigation and arbitration practice with a focus on disputes involving the financial, construction, energy, and telecoms sectors. Maria Raquel Moreira and Diana Simão Lourenço, who joined in January 2023 after the firm’s merger with SLCM, bring added expertise in insolvency, debt restructuring, and recovery.

Portugal > Dispute resolution

Providing ‘quality and excellent services’ to clients across the automotive, infrastructure, energy, real estate, telecoms and financial services sectors, Cuatrecasas is well placed to handle private enforcement and class actions – recent areas of growth for the dispute resolution team – alongside domestic and international arbitration cases. With over 20 years’ experience, practice head Miguel De Almada focuses on civil and commercial litigation and arbitration in the finance, construction, energy and TMT sectors. Luís Miguel Cortes Martins is an experienced arbitrator, while Frederico Bettencourt Ferreira, in addition to his strong credentials in international arbitration, is singled out for his proficiency in out-of-court proceedings. With extensive experience in the banking and finance sector, Maria Raquel Moreira is the name to note for insolvency and restructuring matters. Diana Simão Lourenço focuses on civil and contract-related litigation.
