At Garrigues Portugal, the ‘very dedicated’ Jorge Salvador Gonçalves and senior associate Ana Ferreira da Costa were new hires from Jardim, Sampaio, Magalhães e Silva e Associados – Sociedade de Advogados, RL and DLA Piper ABBC respectively. The practice has a focus on real estate transactions. Miguel Marques dos Santos and Pedro Pereira Coutinho recently joined VdA Vieira de Almeida.

Morais Leitão, Galvão Teles, Soares da Silva & Associados is increasingly advising private equity funds on real estate transactions. In a particular work highlight, the team acted for Oaktree European Principal Fund III in purchasing land and buildings for residential use. Filipa Arantes Pedroso and Rita Ferreira Vicente often work together with the firm’s planning and environment teams.

PLMJ, Law Firm is experienced in handling lease negotiations and acquisitions of shopping centres. In a recent highlight, the team assisted CBRE Global Investment Partners with the acquisition of a majority stake in two shopping centres. In other work, the group advised Mornington Capital on the €60m acquisition of seven buildings to be turned into hotels. Tiago Mendonça de Castro adopts ‘a strategic approach to problems’, and Rita Alarcão Júdice and Pedro Sáragga Leal are also recommended.

Uría Menéndez – Proença de Carvalho has an excellent track record handling hotel development and expansion projects. Its work for private equity clients included advising Lone Star on the sale of the entire share capital of property companies holding three shopping centres, and assisting Oaktree with acquiring eight office buildings from IVG Group. Duarte Garin and counsel João Torroaes Valente are the names to note.

Cuatrecasas’ team ‘tailors advice to clients’ needs’. Highlights included advising JD Sports on the acquisition of 15 shops and lease negotiations with several shopping centres. Nuno Sá Carvalho and associate Sara Quaresma, who is ‘diligent and knowledgeable’, are noted.

The team at real estate boutique Sofia Galvao Advogados provides ‘efficient and rigorous advice’. It advised FinSolutia on the acquisition of several hotels and office buildings. Sofia Galvão has ‘excellent knowledge, contacts and experience’, and Hugo Nunes is ‘very hardworking and able to find solutions that benefit clients’.

VdA Vieira de Almeida’s ‘impressive’ real estate group advised Fundação Oriente on the sale of its Lisbon headquarters to Pavilions Hotels. Practice head Pedro Ferreirinha and managing associate Manuel Gouveia Pereira are the key names. Miguel Marques dos Santos and managing associate Pedro Pereira Coutinho joined from Garrigues Portugal. Leonor Brito left the firm.

DLA Piper ABBC advised Barclays on the sale of mortgaged real estate assets worth €10m, and assisted the Banco de Portugal pension fund with terminating lease agreements to allow building refurbishment. Luís Filipe Carvalho is the key name. Senior associate Ana Ferreira da Costa joined Garrigues Portugal in 2016.

pbbr – Pedro Pinto, Bessa Monteiro, Reis, Branco, Alexandre Jardim & Associados advised Bouygues Immobilier on the development of shopping centres, retail parks and office buildings. Teresa Freire, Pedro Pinto and Tânia Ferreira Osório provide ‘practical advice’.

Work highlights at Abreu Advogados included advising CBRE Global Investors on the acquisition of a warehouse. Rui Peixoto Duarte in the Oporto office and Lisbon-based Patrícia Viana are noted.

The team at CMS advised Baupost and Eurofund on the acquisition of the Dolce Vita Tejo shopping centre. Other work included assisting Fidelidade with negotiating hundreds of lease agreements. Luís Abreu Coutinho heads the practice.

FCB Sociedade de Advogados provides ‘comprehensive advice’ on matters ranging from investments to development and construction. The ‘thorough and experiencedMiguel Lorena Brito was part of a team assisting Metro Group with drafting sale and purchase agreements. Miguel Castelo Branco is also noted.

The real estate and construction group at SRS Advogados stands out for its international expertise and ‘outstanding response times’. It recently handled the acquisition of office and industrial buildings, and assisted with negotiating construction agreements. Managing associate Francisco Pereira Miguel is recommended.

At CCA Ontier, Domingos Cruz leads the real estate team, which has notable experience advising retailers on leasing issues. The group assisted C&A with negotiating and renegotiating lease agreements in several shopping centres, and advised FinSolutia on the acquisition of a property to be leased by Portugal’s telecoms authority.

The ‘committed and dedicated’ team at Gómez-Acebo & Pombo advised on the acquisition of a large commercial property. At associate level, Sofia Rodrigues Nunes, who is ‘very thorough’ and ‘experienced in negotiating with licensing authorities’, and the ‘well-prepared and pragmatic’ José Manuel Nunes are the primary figures.

Macedo Vitorino & Associados is a key name for agricultural land acquisitions. Other work included assisting Bogaris Residential with the sale of buildings worth approximately €8m; Susana Vieira led the advice.

At PRA-Raposo, Sá Miranda & Associados, Sociedade de Advogados RL, clients include several real estate investment funds. The team advised ImoRecuperação on the sale and purchase of two residential buildings. Catarina Costa Lopes is recommended.

Manuel Esteves de Albuquerque’s team at Raposo Bernardo handled real estate transactions for Century 21. Other clients include Re/Max, Era Real Estate and Hilton Hotels & Resorts.
