Advising Suez Energy (now “Engie”) Consortium in relation to the development of a 2,400MW, 300,000m3/per day, power and water desalination plant on a project-financed basis in Jubail, Saudi Arabia (the largest independent water desalination and power generation facility ever tendered).

Advising the operating contractor for several coal mines

Advising various international oil & gas companies (including Petronas, TNK-BP, RAK Gas LLC, Sonangol, Dragon Oil, Lukoil) on the acquisition of upstream interests in the Middle East (involving concession agreements, PSAs / EPSAs, and risk service service contracts and their variants – inluding development and production service contracts in Baghdad-controlled Iraq), the former Soviet Union and Africa.

Advising a Dubai-based, Afghan-owned sponsor-developer on a project-financed oil refinery to be constructed in Afghanistan on a multi-stage basis with a 60,000 barrels per day initial capacity and potential future capacity of 120,000 barrels per day.

We were engaged by a Dubai law firm in relation to the recovery of a debt from a Luxembourg company in connection with fees for sourcing private equity investors into the debtor’s fund. We were successful in recovering AED 2,000,000 for the client through negotiations with the debtor’s representative without the need for taking enforcement action in the Luxembourg courts.

We acted for the director and shareholder of a Mauritian investment management company in relation to a dispute with the owner of the parent company and a group of Albanian investors. The investors commenced proceedings in Mauritius against the Mauritian company, the UK parent company and its owner, alleging that they had been defrauded of valuable securities held by the UK parent company. We were able to extricate the client from all proceedings and to assist the client in criminal investigations in the UAE.

Advised the client on specific recovery and enforcement strategies, as well as disputes with the client’s insurers in respect of its trade finance operations in the Middle East. Retained by the client’s UAE trade finance subsidiary in relation to its various UAE recoveries and other ad hoc dispute matters, including in relation to the collapse of its former client, which is one of the UAE’s largest corporate insolvencies of the last 2-3 years.

Advised a global bank on across-border investigation into potential breaches of U.S. and UK sanctions and anti-money laundering regulati
