Cabinet Office – Government ICT Strategy

The Government has issued a document outlining its ICT strategy for the next two years. It has identified certain challenges, including: projects which are too big, leading to greater risk and complexity and limiting the range of suppliers; departments etc which too rarely re-use and adapt a system off the shelf or commissioned elsewhere in Government, systems which are too rarely interoperable; infrastructure which is insufficiently integrated; serious overcapacity especially in data centres; procurement timescales which are far too long and costly, squeezing out all but the biggest suppliers; and too little attention given to implementation at a senior level in government.
