"It's not the destination, it's the journey that
matters" has never been truer than when it comes to car
safety. Seatbelts are designed to keep your body in place and
reduce the harmful impact of a collision. To optimize the safety
benefits of seatbelts, it's important to understand when and
how to wear them properly.
Securing Yourself and Your Passengers
According to the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, the most
effective way to wear a seatbelt is to have the lower strap against
your lower hips, and the shoulder strap across your chest. You are
also responsible for making sure your child is properly secured and
strapped in a vehicle, including use of the applicable child car
safety seats. At 16 years of age and older, you are responsible for
securing yourself in a vehicle, and can face fines for not wearing
a seatbelt.
