Visa holders warned to watch out for potential
scammers
The ACCC and Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) are
warning people who have migrated to Australia or hold a temporary
visa to be wary of a scam which may target them. A DIAC spokesman
said it was a well-organised ruse to con migrants into transferring
an "unpaid Government fee", when the purported
'CISA' number does not exist (25 July 2013).

holders are living in Australia after being admitted on false
travel and work documents, with Dept of Immigration internal audits
show fraud rates approaching 50 per cent, and a Department
struggling to properly identify people who are entering the country

Eight illegal workers detained in early morning
compliance operation on Perth house
Eight illegal workers were detained in a pre-dawn immigration
compliance operation at a house in the northern suburbs of Perth
today. The eight men are all Malay nationals suspected of working
illegally in the agriculture or market garden industries (16 July
2013).

Introduction of a Biometrics Trial in
Nigeria
On 29 July 2013, a trial collecting biometrics (fingerprints and
facial image) from visa applicants in Nigeria commences. Visa
applicants, regardless of their nationality, who are physically in
Nigeria when applying for a visa to enter Australia, will need to
provide their biometrics unless they are exempted or excluded from
doing so by our policy (26 July 2013).
