Juan Pablo Riesco has been an associate lawyer of Prieto since 2015.

He is part of the Litigation team and part of the Public Law team of Prieto, combining active professional practice and litigation activity. He has 10 years of experience involved in administrative, judicial and regulatory matters and counselling major international and national companies in all they regulated and administrative matters.

He is actively involved in the defense of diverse clients in civil and commercial proceedings before regular and arbitration courts. He has also been legal counsel in proceedings before administrative and regulatory authorities.

Juan Pablo holds a law degree from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in 2010. He also holds a postgraduate Diploma’s degree in Antitrust, Economy, Law and Regulation at Centro de Libre Competencia de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in 2013. In 2019, he finished a Master of Laws (LL.M), Regulatory mention, from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, with maximum distinction.

He is also ranked at Legal 500.

Litigation is the second largest practice at full-service, mid-sized firm Prieto Abogados. The ‘great‘ seven-strong team regularly represents longstanding clients before the ordinary courts in disputes involving energy, construction, real estate and retail; and it has expanded its practice to cover new sectors, such as insurance, transportation, healthcare, telecoms and banking. The practice also has notably robust public law litigation expertise. The experienced leaders of the litigation department are Fernando Samaniego, who specialises in real estate, construction and antitrust litigation; utilities, energy, infrastructure and antitrust disputes expert Claudio Undurraga; and Alberto González V, who is highly regarded for real estate, construction and energy disputes. Counsel Juan Pablo Riesco and senior associate Cristóbal Jiménez are also key team members.

Chile > Bankruptcy, insolvency and restructuring

At full-service law firm Prieto Abogados, the ten-member group regularly handles significant insolvency judicial procedures, including liquidations and reorganisations. The practice also advises on negotiations with default companies, debt renegotiations, syndicated loans and bond issuances. An ‘excellent lawyer with a lot of knowledge‘, insolvency and bankruptcy leader Benjamín Grebe has key experience in bankruptcies and insolvencies, liquidations and company reorganisations, with additional partner-level support provided by Alberto González V. The practice is co-led by Fernando Samaniego, who specialises in real estate, construction and antitrust litigation (and is regularly appointed as arbitrator in construction disputes); and arbitration specialist Alberto González V.
