Hughie Wong

Hughie is the Managing Partner of Walkers' London office and co-head of our Investment Funds practice group in London. Hughie leads a team of London based lawyers providing time-zone sensitive, dedicated Bermuda, BVI and Cayman Islands law support to clients based in EMEA. He works with external counsel, investment managers and funds on setting up and launching investment funds, and their financing. He also specialises in all aspects of fund activity and regulation, as well as fund restructurings and distressed situations. Hughie has more than 25 years’ experience in private practice, and advises clients on Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands’ law on hedge, private equity and venture capital funds, including digital assets and crypto-currency funds. He also helps them with their downstream corporate and financing matters, including structured finance, mergers and acquisitions, and regulatory issues. Hughie is recognised by Chambers & Partners, Legal 500 and Lexology Index (formerly Who's Who Legal) for the quality of his advice.
Tatziana Paraguacuto-Maheo

Tatziana Paraguacuto-Maheo

Tatziana Paraguacuto-Maheo is a partner in the London office and co-heads the London Investment Funds Group. Tatziana has over 21 years’ experience, including 14 years practicing Cayman Islands law and has been recognised as one of the top 50 women in hedge funds by the Hedge Fund Journal. Throughout her career Tatziana has acted for major financial institutions, investment funds and asset managers based in London, New York and Hong Kong including the launch of many of the world’s largest emerging managers. Tatziana has also advised on leading hedge fund launches over the past 14 years – her clients include managers starting their first funds as well as those managing the largest funds. Tatziana’s experience includes structuring hedge funds, private-equity funds, hybrid funds and funds of funds, and accommodating seed and strategic investments. She also regularly advises fund clients in fintech, particularly investment managers launching fund cryptocurrency or digital asset funds. As well as this, Tatziana advises on all legal aspects affecting funds. This includes launching new products, restructurings and acquisitions, as well as regulatory, contentious and governance issues. Tatziana is a frequent speaker at the International Bar Association. She has also written about issues facing the investment management industry, including Cayman structuring considerations for the Alternative Investment Management Association Journal. Alastair  King

Alastair King

Alastair King is a partner based in Walkers' London Investment Funds team, with more than ten years' experience in private practice. He is admitted in both the Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands and specialises in advice in respect of Cayman and BVI hedge and private equity funds and fund managers, advising on fund structuring, launch and ongoing regulatory requirements. Alastair spent five years practising in London with a major international firm, before moving offshore and practising first in the Cayman Islands and then in Singapore as an offshore lawyer. He has experience of advising funds investing in digital assets, and on the corresponding regulatory regimes in the Cayman Islands and BVI. Alastair also advises on general corporate and finance matters under Cayman Islands and BVI law.
Sophie Crocker

Sophie Crocker

Sophie Crocker is a senior counsel in Walkers' London office and a member of the firm's Global Investment Funds Group. Sophie joined Walkers' Cayman Islands office in 2009 and in 2016 transferred to practise in Walkers' Hong Kong office. Sophie specialises in all aspects of funds work and has experience in a broad range of funds transactions as well as general corporate work. She has experience in the US, Asian and European markets. Sophie advises a large number of the major private equity houses and their onshore counsel, investment banks and financial institutions and corporations. She has worked on private equity transactions out of the US, Europe, Hong Kong, China and Japan and general corporate work out of the US, Europe and Asia.

Ching Ching Tay

Ching Ching Tay is a senior counsel based in our London office. She joined Walkers in 2019 and is a member of the Global Investment Funds. She specialises in hedge funds and private equity funds established in the Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands, and advises on all legal aspects including formation, structuring and restructuring, redemption and liquidation, downstream transactions, corporate advisory and legal and regulatory matters. She also advises on a broad range of corporate and commercial transactions such as shareholder agreements and investment agreements.
Sam  Burford-Yeo

Sam Burford-Yeo

Sam Burford-Yeo is a senior associate in Walkers' London Investment Funds Practice Group. He advises on all matters relating to the structuring, launch, operation, restructuring and closure of Cayman Islands open-ended and closed-ended investment funds. Sam has considerable experience advising with respect to liquidity control mechanics and associated restructurings. He has worked with Cayman Islands funds in both offshore and onshore capacities, and works directly with the leading onshore law firms in this sphere, as well as with leading service providers and asset managers. Sam also advises on Cayman Islands law and regulation in respect of economic substance, beneficial ownership and data protection. He has advised extensively with regard to rules, policies, procedures and statements of guidance issued by the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority with respect to mutual and private funds. He also has particular expertise in audit requirements for funds throughout their life cycle.
