Position

Hughie is the Managing Partner of Walkers' London office and co-head of our Investment Funds practice group in London.

Hughie leads a team of London based lawyers providing time-zone sensitive, dedicated Bermuda, BVI and Cayman Islands law support to clients based in EMEA.

He works with external counsel, investment managers and funds on setting up and launching investment funds, and their financing. He also specialises in all aspects of fund activity and regulation, as well as fund restructurings and distressed situations.

Hughie has more than 25 years’ experience in private practice, and advises clients on Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands’ law on hedge, private equity and venture capital funds, including digital assets and crypto-currency funds. He also helps them with their downstream corporate and financing matters, including structured finance, mergers and acquisitions, and regulatory issues.

Hughie is recognised by Chambers & Partners, Legal 500 and Lexology Index (formerly Who's Who Legal) for the quality of his advice.

Career

Hughie trained and qualified at Slaughter and May, where he spent 13 years prior to joining Walkers. His practice at Slaughter and May included advising a broad range of financial institutions and corporate clients on capital markets, structured finance and banking transactions; and regulatory issues.​ He joined Walkers in 2008.
