Dispute resolution > Appellate: courts of appeals / Appellate: supreme courts (states and federal)

Greenberg Traurig LLP‘s practice benefits from a broad national footprint, which routinely sees the team litigate before all 13 circuit courts and the US Supreme Court — as well as the highest courts and lower appellate courts in many states. The wider firm’s strong offerings in class actions, real estate and IP ensure that the team is well versed in appeals relating to those areas. It also handles a significant volume of cases concerning voting rights and election law, federal constitutional law, civil rights law and energy. Elliot Scherker, Dale Wainwright and Carmen Beauchamp Ciparick co-chair the practice from Miami, Austin and New York respectively. Dominic Draye, who splits his time between Phoenix and Washington DC, is an ‘extremely clear communicator‘; he successfully represented a group of legislators and individuals in the Arizona Supreme Court challenging the constitutionality of a statutory initiative imposing a new tax on earned income.

Testimonials

‘The team is very client oriented. They communicate regularly and succinctly. They have expertise in a broad array of practices.’

‘They were expert in the SCOTUS landscape yet humble and excited about learning. This is rare. Dominic Draye and William Eye were my points of contact. Both were accessible, timely, and affirming to work with.’

‘The partner we hired, Dominic Draye, has a unique skill set that includes extensive work at the supreme court level. From our perspective, he is, by far, the most qualified lawyer we could find to handle our complicated case.’

‘Dominic Draye was previously the solicitor general for the state of AZ before joining Greenberg Traurig. He spent years working directly with the supreme court justices and is extremely familiar with the laws in that state. We found him to be uniquely qualified to handle our case and has the legal skill set to put forth the best possible argument for our case.’

‘Dominic Draye is thorough and intelligent. He thinks things through and anticipates what panels will question on, the issues that are important and how to address them so that the judges don’t need to ask them. He also is careful not to concede when it is not necessary.’

‘Dom Draye and his team in the appellate practice in Arizona are especially adept at working collaboratively with trial attorneys throughout the process of a case anticipated to go to appeal. This has helped us position ourselves well for his work in the appellate/state supreme court.’

‘Dom is conscientious of costs and proactive in helping us budget for his services. He worked exceptionally well as part of a team with trial attorneys in a different firm as well as a non-profit offering legal services in the case. He’s worked to engage the full team at key decision points and graciously accepts input from others.’

Latin America: International firms > Capital markets Tier 3

Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s representation of a multitude of Latin American businesses brings it a steady flow of capital markets engagements. The firm also demonstrates particular expertise in SPAC-related transactions, liability management, structured debt deals and asset-backed securitisations. It is building its presence in project bonds, along with green and sustainability-linked bonds. The firm has a particularly strong record in Mexico, thanks in part to its sizeable Mexico City office, and also has a long history in offerings originating from Central America, although it now has a wider geographic coverage across South America too. Marc Rossell is hugely experienced in the Latin America capital markets segment, along with ‘truly exceptional attorneyOscar Stephens, who is a growing force in project and infrastructure bonds, asset-based securitisations and future-flow structured finance. Both are based in New York. The Miami office, the firm’s headquarters, also houses a large team focused on Latin America, many of whom have worked on a recent spate of SPAC deals. Testimonials

The team that works at Greenberg is top quality, it shows in the responses, and agility to resolve issues.

In its technical knowledge, it is noted superior to other firms.

Greenberg Traurig’s capital markets team has excellent lawyers, with a very sophisticated practice. They are always available and have very good technical and market knowledge. It compares very well in relation to other offices.

In relation to the Latin American practice, they have lawyers who speak Spanish perfectly, many of them being of Latin origin. That is essential when talking to clients and other firms in Latin America. In addition, their lawyers have a lot of experience in capital markets deals and know the area very well. I especially highlight Oscar Stephens, partner of the firm with a focus on Latin America. I have worked with Oscar a lot over the years and on different transactions. His technical mastery of topics never ceases to amaze me, but above all I highlight his ability to remain calm in the most stressful moments and always be focused on finding intelligent solutions. He is a truly exceptional attorney.

The Latam practice has great knowledge of the market and proximity to the legal market.

Oscar Stephens is an excellent attorney who understands and collaborates with the local attorney on transactions. Great market knowledge and available to answer questions. Additionally, his approach helps deals close.

The team is always attentive and helpful.

Marc Rossell is a spectacular lawyer, always willing to support our company at very competitive prices and good quality.
