Career

A graduate from the University of Keele, in the United Kingdom, in 1989 with joint Honours degrees in Law and Sociology, Sai Yeang is a member of The Honourable Society of the Inner Temple, London and was called to the Bar of England and Wales as an Utter Barrister in 1990.

Since 1991, when she was called to the Malaysian Bar, Sai Yeang has appeared before judges at every level of the Malaysian judicial system.   She became a partner in 1997 and is now the Head of the Dispute Resolution Practice Group.

Specialising in commercial litigation with particular emphasis on finance, banking, property, receivership and insolvency, she has also represented clients in corporate litigation in matters such as shareholder disputes, boardroom tussles and schemes of arrangement, as well as in litigation arising from Islamic banking products such as Al Bai’ Bithaman Ajil, Al Ijarah, Kafalah, Wakalah, Murabahah and Musyarakah facilities.

Sai Yeang has been a member of the Malaysian Bar Council’s Islamic Finance Committee for a number of years.  She is a member of the Disciplinary Committee Panel appointed by the Advocates and Solicitors’ Disciplinary Board under the Legal Profession Act 1976 and is also a Trainer in the Malaysian Bar Council’s Advocacy Training courses.

The 2020 edition of Chambers Asia Pacific recognised Sai Yeang as a leading dispute resolution practitioner with expertise in insolvency issues.  She has continued to be ranked in the 2021 – 2023 editions.
