Career

Sarah is a Partner and Education and Community Care Solicitor at Simpson Millar.

Much of her work involves making sure children with special educational needs and/or disabilities can access suitable education and/or services. Sarah uses different methods to achieve this, including mediation, negotiation, judicial review proceedings and tribunal appeals.

She often advises on SEN matters including applying for SEN assessments, securing suitable provision and school placements and what should be included in Education, Health and Care Plans.

Sarah is particularly interested in helping people aged between 16 and 25 get the funding they need to help them transition to adult life.

She also works on Court of Protection cases, including cases concerning a person’s deprivation of liberty, and represents people who lack capacity to make decisions concerning their health and welfare.

Sarah also works with various charities that support people with special needs and disabilities. She currently sits on the board of Skills for People, and was previously trustee of North East Special Needs Network, which merged with Skills for People in 2017. In addition, she has contributed to specialist publications such as the Education Law Journal.
