Career

Maarten has been practising employment law and related litigation for over 18 years. He is a former senior lawyer of Baker McKenzie’s Amsterdam employment and pensions department. He joined Shearwaters as a partner on 1 September 2015 and co-heads the firm with Martijn van Broeckhuijsen.

Maarten advises and litigates on a broad range of Dutch and international employment matters. He has particular expertise and experience in the areas of business restructurings and downsizing of (international) workforces, compliance and investigations, executive ‘hiring and firing’, restrictive covenants and unfair competition.

Maarten is a strong litigator with a reputable track record. He is also familiar with alternative dispute resolution (e.g. mediation).

Maarten advises corporates, financial institutions and executives operating internationally, on stand-alone employment law matters and on the employment aspects of mergers, acquisitions, closures and relocations of businesses.
