Career
I qualified as a solicitor in 2009 and have worked at Irwin Mitchell since 2014. I am a Partner in the Medical Negligence team, based in our Newcastle and Leeds offices. Whilst representing clients across both geographic locations, I lead the Newcastle Team.
I’m accredited by the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) as both a Senior Litigator and Clinical Negligence Specialist.
I help people who’ve been affected by a wide range of issues, including:
- Birth injuries
- Surgical errors
- Amputations
- Delays in diagnosis
- Mental health negligence including failure to prevent suicide and secondary victim claims for psychiatric injuries.
I act exclusively for patients in claims against doctors and hospitals, both NHS and private. I act for patients as individuals or as part of group actions.
Highlights include:
- Securing over £15 million for a child who suffers from quadriplegic cerebral palsy caused by complications at birth
- Running a group action of claims for 25 former patients against Mr Walsh, former orthopaedic surgeon at Spire and Nuffield Hospitals in Leeds
- Continuing to establish a niche in complex mental health matters and actively promote patient safety through litigation in this field. I’ve recently supported a client’s campaign for standardised suicide risk assessment tools across the NHS to try and reduce suicide deaths. My work for this client was praised at a House of Commons debate on this topic which I was invited to attend
Together with West Yorkshire Disability Sports and Boccia England, I co-founded a disability sports club in Leeds in 2015 where I also coach Boccia. Nationally, I lead Irwin Mitchell’s national partnership with Boccia England and co-ordinate Boccia activity across Irwin Mitchell’s offices – read more about Boccia.
