Career

Julien began his career with CASALONGA & ASSOCIÉS in 2003 and is partner since 2015.

Julien focuses on drafting and prosecuting both domestic and foreign patent applications. He also gives opinions on freedom to operate and studies the validity of patents.

Julien also regularly represents clients in proceedings before the European Patent Office, including opposition and appeal proceedings.

He is involved in patent litigations in France where he joins a team of patent lawyers of CASALONGA AVOCATS. He regularly organizes and assists the bailiffs in infringement-seizure operations to find evidence of patent infringement.

He often drafts and negotiates know-how license agreements.

Julien practices mainly in the fields of mechanical, automobile, materials, physics, civil engineering, thermal engineering, optics, packaging, materials and medical devices and equipment.

Julien Thon is member of the French Patent and Trademark association (CNCPI “Compagnie Nationale des Conseils en Propriété Industrielle”), the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) and the Rhône-Alpes Group for the Protection of Intellectual Property (GRAPI).

Julien is also member of the European Patent Institute (epi). He has been elected as a full member of the epi European Patent Practice Committee (EPPC), which considers and discusses all questions pertaining to, or connected with, practice under the European Patent Convention, the Community Unitary Patent Regulation and the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) including any revision thereof.

Julien is also an associate member of the Mechanics subcommittee of the EPPC.
