The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has stated that 76.68%, 84.15% and 108% of the generation targets with respect to renewable energy generations in India has been achieved during the last 3 years, that is, 2012 – 2013, 2013 – 2014 and 2014 – 2015 respectively.
The minor short-falls in renewable energy generation which has occurred during the financial years 2012 – 2013 and 2013 – 2014 were primarily in wind power and small hydro power generation. Discontinuation of the accelerated depreciation scheme and the generation based incentive scheme with respect to wind power generation and delay in processing of forest clearances with respect to small hydro power generation has been the key reason for the aforesaid shortfall in the target achievement.
However, now with the accelerated depreciation scheme and the generation based incentives scheme being restored, the targets for the financial year 2014 – 2015 has been overachieved.
