Ferrere distinguishes itself through its ‘outstanding "big-game" experience’ and ‘strong commitment to the client’. The ‘first-rate’ group is also widely lauded for being ‘extremely well versed in both arbitration and litigation’, with particularly strong expertise in cases involving financial services, construction and white-collar crime. Group head Sandra González is a ‘brilliant and highly sophisticated lawyer’ and is representing a raft of major oil companies (including ExxonMobil, Shell, YPF and Total) in a claim brought by fisheries concerning an alleged decline in fish catches due to oil exploration. Led by Carlos Brandes, who is widely revered as a ‘market leader’, the group also includes increasingly prominent associate Mariana Santo, whose rocketing profile marks her as a ‘lawyer to watch’. Associates Macarena Fariña and Federico Carbajales are also highlighted together for their ‘deep knowledge of judicial processes and alternatives to prevent litigation’. Jiménez de Aréchaga, Viana + Brause houses a diverse dispute resolution practice, which is particularly active in financial litigation, contentious bankruptcy proceedings and antitrust cases. Names to note include renowned arbitrator Fernando Jiménez de Aréchaga, bankruptcy expert Nicolás Brause and financial litigation specialist Mariela Ruanova. Highlights included successfully representing Milagro in a tax claim against the state.

Posadas, Posadas & Vecino’s team continues to gain market share and won several new trophy clients over the past year, including Johnson & Johnson, International Air Transport Association and Fortune International Realty. Seasoned litigator Luis Nin leads the group and represented Caterpillar Leasing in a construction dispute against Constructora Santa María. Associate María Laura Capalbo, who provided support on the Caterpillar case, ‘is very strong’.

Olivera Abogados is held up as ‘extremely agile, accurate and remarkably service-oriented’. In particular, key contact Nicolás Paseyro is an ‘excellent professional’ and assisted Libra Laboratory in challenging the terms and conditions of public tender calls undertaken by the unit in charge of procuring medicinal products for the Uruguayan state (the UCA).
