His highlights included advising a Polish lease finance company on impounding proceedings; acting on due diligence matters for an Ipswich-based importing subsidiary of a Chinese company; and assisting a Dutch munitions haulier with an application to renew permissions to import into the UK. Former Royal Military Policeman and Trading Standards specialist Stephen Brown worked with Catherall to advise numerous London-based fulfilment houses and China-based e-commerce traders on HMRC and National Trading Standards investigations. He is ably assisted by rising star Tej Thakkar. Among the team’s many recent highlights is the defence of a client facing three separate charges relating to a motor accident, including the use of a handheld mobile phone while driving. Magistrates upheld the defence team’s position that mitigating factors met the threshold for ‘exceptional hardship’ and awarded points on the driver’s licence rather than imposing a disqualification from driving.
