Position

Alfredo is a senior associate of the Montevideo office.  He is a member of the Corporate and Banking Law and the Projects and Infrastructure departments.

 

Career

Alfredo focuses on corporate and financing transactions, especially mergers and acquisitions and project finance, and in public procurement processes (particularly public-private partnerships and concession contracts). In his daily practice, Alfredo advises on corporate and commercial law matters both to local and foreign clients from a variety of sectors, including, energy, infrastructure, agribusiness, finance, and services.

Alfredo is a co-author of the Uruguayan Private Equity chapter of the Global Practice Guide 2023 of Chambers & Partners.

In 2022 Alfredo worked in the Dentons’ offices of Bolivia, where he acquired good comprehension of such market and developed strong contacts with clients of such office, especially bilateral investors of Uruguay and Bolivia.

  • Vesta Software Group: Advised the client in the acquisition of Datalogic, Uruware and GSoft, Uruguayan companies from the IT services and software development sectors.
  • Consortium Copetrol, Acodike and Elindur Investment: Advised the consortium comprised of Paraguayan Copetrol, Acodike and Argentinian Elindur Investment in the acquisition of 100% of the shares in Axion Comercialización de Combustibles y Lubricantes S.A., a company engaged in the business of distribution and sale of fuel and lubricants which counts with a network of 98 gas stations.
  • Marfrig: Advised the meat processor in the contracts related to its project to increase its Tacuarembó, Uruguay, slaughterhouse in the context of a US$50M investment.
  • Banco Santander anc Caixabank: advising the financial institutiones, as local counsel, in the debt refinancing of Ladaner S.A., a company which owns Cerro Grande Wind Farm (50 MW) located in the department of Cerro Largo, Uruguay.
  • Sacyr Concesiones, Saceem, NGE Concessions, and Berkes: Advised the construction companies in the bidding, project development and financing of the Central Railway Project (investment of approximately USD 1.1 billion).

Dentons Jiménez de Aréchaga‘s banking and finance department has a strong track record in the Uruguayan market, having been the adviser of choice for Banco Santander for over thirty years. Although the firm advises clients from a wide range of sectors, including retail and fintech, it has notably consolidated its experience in project financing transactions in recent years: it advised Grupo Vía Central on the Ferrocarril Central project, a public-private partnership railway project for which $1.1b has been raised. Dentons Jiménez de Aréchaga has a strong reputation for the financing and refinancing of renewable energy projects, as well as handling PPP matters. The practice group has advised on several major wind and solar projects in Uruguay, such as the recent sale of a wind farm owned by Grupo Cobra to Cubico Investments. In the project finance arena, the team has significant experience with PPP highway projects, including recent advice to the sponsors on major road project Circuito 5. Fernando Jiménez de Aréchaga Jr heads the department, bringing great experience in project financing and an excellent track record in PPP work.
