Position

Partner specialising in clinical negligence and claims of maximum severity and complexity. Lauren handles cases for both adults and children and has developed a particular interest in matters concerning obstetrics and gynaecology, birth injury, general surgery, spinal injury and cardiology. She also has a special interest in the quantification of claims and in ensuring claims are not settled too soon without sufficient evidence of the complex needs which may develop over time, and in the case of children, as they grow. Lauren has been listed in the 2014 Legal 500 directory and is described as being ‚Äúvery knowledgeable in her field‚ÄĚ. She has also been recognised as a rising star in the Super Lawyers publication. Notable Cases: XXX v Barnet & Chase Farm Hospital NHS Trust (2013). The Claimant, a ten year old boy, received a lump sum of ¬£2,900,000 plus periodical payments of ¬£185,572 per annum until age 16, ¬£207,500 per annum from age 16-19, and ¬£297,500 thereafter for life for the brain injuries sustained due to pneumococcal meningitis in January 2004. He suffered from severe quadriplegic cerebral palsy, epilepsy, sensorineural deafness and significant learning difficulties. He would require constant care for the rest of his life and his life expectancy had been reduced to 31 years. Out of Court settlement (Approved, RCJ) (Tugendhat J).

Recent highlights include the £2.65m settlement of a cerebral palsy matter and a £9m claim concerning a negligent haemophilia screening which, years later, caused the claimant's son to be born with the condition, which the client had wanted to prevent by having the respective blood tests.
