Simeon Ken R. Ferrer is a partner in SyCip Salazar Hernandez & Gatmaitan. His practice areas include banking, finance and securities, foreign investments, mergers and acquisitions, and corporations.

He has assisted Philippine and foreign banks and other financial institutions in connection with equity, debt and derivative securities issues, as well as securitization transactions, by Philippine corporations and by the Republic of the Philippines. Among his recent securities transactions involving public companies are the San Miguel Corporation Series “2” Preferred Share issue, which was cited as “the largest capital markets transaction in Philippine history”, and the sale by the Uytengsu Family of its controlling interest in Alaska Milk Corporation.

Mr. Ferrer also assists foreign investors in structuring their direct investments in the Philippines, including through special economic zone facilities, joint ventures, subsidiaries and branches. He acts as Director, Corporate Secretary or Assistant Corporate Secretary of various Philippine and multinational corporations engaged in diverse economic activities, such as power distribution, car assembly, mineral processing, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, and property holding and development.


He was listed in Euromoney Legal Group’s Guide to the World’s Leading Capital Market Lawyers for several years. He was also cited in the area of capital markets in IFLR’s The Guide to the World’s Leading International Law Firms. Finally, he has been listed as a leading lawyer in the Philippines in the area of commercial and corporate law in Asialaw Profiles.

From 1985 to 1986, he was a foreign attorney at Sullivan & Cromwell in New York.

He contributes to legal periodicals. His recent articles include the Philippine sections of International Insider Trading, a publication of FT Law & Tax in London, and of Securities Finance 2009, a publication of Law Business Research, also in London. He also delivers lectures and papers in various legal and professional fora in and out of the Philippines.


Mr. Ferrer is a member of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines and the Philippine Bar Association, and a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Directors. He is also the International Alumni Contact for the Philippines of the University of Michigan Alumni Association.


Mr. Ferrer completed his undergraduate degree in business economics and his law degree at the University of the Philippines in 1977 and 1981, respectively. He obtained his Master of Laws degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor as a DeWitt Fellow, in 1985.

The firm recently acted for BDO Unibank, the Philippine National Bank and Bank of China on a $690m loan to Clark Global City. Another highlight includes acting for Mizuho Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation in relation to a $700m unsecured loan to SMC Global Holdings. The team is led by the ‘particularly remarkable’ Marievic Ramos- Añonuevo, who is ‘a hands-on lawyer, able to spot relevant legal issues and provide practical advice to resolve them’. John Paul De Leon was promoted to partner, as was Jan Abaño-Ranada, who is ‘a very promising lawyer: confident, hard-working, reliable, and independent’. Jose Pamfilo, Vicente Gerochi IV, Simeon Ken Ferrer are also recommended.
