Cindy’s practice areas include corporate and commercial litigation, intellectual property, and tax matters. Cindy also specialises in all aspects of non-contentious IP matters concerning trade mark, patent, copyright, registered design, confidential information, enforcement work, licensing and franchise.

Cindy has a strong track record of successfully representing clients in precedent-setting cases and large-scale litigation. For instance, Cindy successfully argued the first case in the world where the Court was persuaded to invoke its power to amend a company’s constitution, the first case in Malaysia concerning an "anti-foreign arbitration injunction"; the ground breaking decision concerning anti-competition clause in franchise transactions involving international parties, the leading patent invalidation case that changed the patent law in Malaysia; just to name a few.

With more than 20 years of experience as a practitioner, Cindy’s clientele ranges from local public listed companies to many well-known foreign muti-national corporations. Cindy’s past experiences include handling complex IP disputes, shareholders’ disputes, corporate restructuring exercises, defamation, negligence, contractual disputes, banking and land related matters. Cindy was also involved in domestic and international arbitrations including proceedings in Rome, Italy. She has experience conducting tax appeals at the Special Commissioners for Income Tax, High Court and the Court of Appeal.  Cindy also advises clients on complex IP issues and managing their IP portfolios.

Cindy is the Chairperson of the Malaysian Bar IP Committee, a Board member of the Asian Patent Attorneys’ Association (APAA), a committee member of the International Trademark Association (INTA) and is the firm’s representative in the Malaysian Intellectual Property Association (MIPA). She is also the Global Treasurer of Advoc, a network of independent law firms in the world.

Education

A graduate of International Islamic University of Malaysia with Bachelor of Laws (Second Upper Honours) for both Civil law and Syariah law. She was admitted as an advocate & solicitor of the High Court in Malaya in July 2001. Cindy is a registered trade mark, patent, and industrial design agent in Malaysia.
