Google announced that it will no longer allow advertising for any products or services that are marketed or targeted with the express purpose of tracking or monitoring another person without his or her consent. The policy, which goes into effect on August 11, 2020, will apply globally.
Examples of advertising that will no longer be permitted on Google include advertising for spyware that can be used to monitor texts, phone calls, or browsing history, GPS trackers specifically marketed to spy or track people without their consent, and surveillance equipment (such as cameras, audio recorders, dash cams, and nanny cams) marketed with the express purpose of spying.
The policy does not prohibit, however, advertising for private investigation services and products and services designed for parents to track or monitor their underage children.
