Defining 'finfluencers'

The buzz word 'finfluencers' has reportedly been making the rounds in the hallways of Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) since early 2022.

'Finfluencers' is a term which is colloquially used for financial influencers and content creators, who by virtue of their popular status, the number of followers / subscribers and their reach on various social media platforms, are in a reasonable position to influence the decisions in relation to securities of large number of people through promotions or recommendations. They create content on all kinds of financial information, viz., investment strategies, personal finance, analysis of sophisticated financial products, among others.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (“FSSAI”) has, over the course of late May 2025, taken two connected regulatory steps aimed at curbing misleading claims on packaged food labels. In Kotak Mahindra Bank Limited v Trupti Sanjay Mehta and Others, 2026 INSC 943 (Kotak Mahindra), the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India considered whether a bank as defined under Section 2(1)(c) of the Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest Act, 2002 (SARFAESI Act) could invoke the provisions of the SARFAESI Act to recover a secured debt acquired from an entity which was not covered under the ambit of the SARFAESI Act at the time of disbursement of the loan.

DOT Notifies Telecom Network Authorisation Rules, 2026: What Has Changed?

On 20 July 2026, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) notified the Telecommunications (Authorisation for Telecommunication Network) Rules, 2026 (Rules).
