As part of most work/study permits and visitor visa
applications, applicants are required to give biometrics.
Biometrics consist of the collection of fingerprints and a photo at
a Canadian visa application centre (VAC). In most cases, applicants
are required to give biometrics outside of Canada prior to issuance
of their temporary travel document and/or permit.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will
normally send applicants a biometrics collection letter sometime
after their application has been submitted. The letter will provide
instructions on how to get biometrics and provide a 30-day
timeframe within which to complete this step. Failure to do so
within the prescribed time can lead to a rejection of the
application in question.
