January 24, 2019 – Canada has launched a new Rural and
Northern Immigration Pilot to help bring new skilled worker
immigrants to smaller communities.
The five-year federal immigration pilot is designed to boost
smaller communities with aging populations and labour shortages,
which struggle to attract and retain new immigrants.
It is intended to build on the growing success of the
Atlantic Immigration Pilot, an initiative aimed at establishing
more young, skilled immigrants in the four Atlantic provinces.
The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot will be open to all
other Canadian provinces outside the Atlantic region, excluding
Quebec, which manages its own economic immigration programs.
