Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
This statement is made pursuant to section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and sets out the steps taken by Legalease Ltd (trading as “Legal 500”) to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in its business operations and supply chains.
Legal 500 has a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery and human trafficking. We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business relationships and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to help ensure that modern slavery is not taking place in our business or, so far as reasonably practicable, within our supply chains.
Our Business and Structure
Legal 500 is a data-driven, AI-optimised research platform which benchmarks, informs and connects providers and users of legal services in over 100 countries worldwide.
Our operations are primarily office-based and professional in nature. Our workforce consists predominantly of employees engaged in editorial, research, technology, commercial, marketing, events and corporate services functions.
This statement applies to Legalease Ltd and any subsidiary undertaking required to comply with the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
Our Supply Chain
Legal 500 works with a range of suppliers in the UK and internationally, including providers of:
- technology platforms, software and IT infrastructure;
- professional and advisory services;
- event venues and associated event services;
- marketing, communications and content-related services; and
- office facilities, equipment and workplace services.
Given the nature of our business, we consider the overall risk of modern slavery within our direct operations to be low. However, we recognise that modern slavery can exist within global supply chains and that risks may arise indirectly through suppliers operating across different jurisdictions.
Policies and Governance
Legal 500 has adopted a number of policies and governance measures that support our commitment to preventing modern slavery and human trafficking, including:
- a Code of Conduct setting out the standards of ethical behaviour expected of employees;
- supplier contractual provisions, where appropriate, requiring compliance with applicable laws and ethical business standards;
- an Anti-Bribery and Corruption Policy; and
- whistleblowing arrangements that enable employees to raise concerns confidentially and without fear of retaliation.
These policies reflect the standards we expect within our business and, where appropriate, from those with whom we do business.
Due Diligence and Risk Management
Legal 500 adopts a proportionate, risk-based approach to managing modern slavery risks within its supply chain.
Our approach includes:
- considering the nature of the goods and services being procured;
- assessing potential risks associated with suppliers and the jurisdictions in which they operate;
- seeking to establish long-term relationships with reputable suppliers that share our commitment to lawful and ethical business practices; and
- taking appropriate action where credible concerns regarding unethical practices are identified.
Based on the nature of our operations and supply chain, Legal 500 currently considers the overall risk of modern slavery and human trafficking to be low. We will continue to keep this assessment under review as our business and supply chain evolve.
Awareness and Reporting
Legal 500 is committed to promoting awareness of modern slavery and human trafficking across the business.
Employees are encouraged to report any concerns regarding suspected unethical or unlawful practices through established management and whistleblowing channels. Any reports received are taken seriously and investigated appropriately.
Monitoring and Continuous Improvement
Legal 500 recognises that preventing modern slavery is an ongoing responsibility. We will continue to review our policies, governance arrangements and supplier management processes to ensure they remain appropriate to the nature, scale and complexity of our business and supply chains.
