Alethea Redfern

Position

Alethea Redfern specialises in construction, insurance and reinsurance, professional negligence, property damage and commercial disputes. She has successfully appeared in the High Court both as sole counsel and as part of a team of counsel in larger disputes, and is regularly instructed in relation to arbitrations and adjudications.

Alethea co-authors a chapter on construction bonds and guarantees in a leading textbook, Emden’s Construction Law.

Career

Before studying law, Alethea read English Language & Literature at New College, Oxford, where she graduated with a First Class degree and an award for her performance in final examinations from New. She then completed her legal studies at City University and BPP University with postgraduate scholarships from both institutions, as well as the Lord Haldane and Lord Denning Scholarships from Lincoln’s Inn.

Before commencing pupillage, Alethea undertook an internship at the UN Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals, and later worked as a researcher and reviewer for the team representing the largest group of survivors and victims’ families involved in the Grenfell Tower Inquiry.
