Brick Court Chambers continues to handle the leading cases in the field of competition law, advising both claimants and defendants across the spectrum of competition areas, from state aid and cartels to abuse of dominant positions and contested mergers. Mark Hoskins KC leads, among others, Sarah Abram KC, who took silk in 2022, in acting for leading mobile operators, including O2 and Telefonica, in a damages claim brought by Phones4U for around £800m; the retailer collapsed into administration in 2014 alleging that the networks conspired to drive it out of business. Recent highlights include an LCIA arbitration in which Vernon Flynn KC acts for Vallex FM and Base Metals following a $300m claim by a Russian bank in relation to the financing of and investment in a copper mine in Armenia. The set: There are over 100 members who practise full-time, including 50 KCs. Chambers specialises in commercial, competition, international/EU and public law, maintaining a strong reputation in all areas.

Types of work undertaken:  Commercial work includes all aspects of international trade, finance and commerce, with particular emphasis on banking, insurance, reinsurance, shipping and City work, and on private international law. Members of chambers also specialise in fields as diverse as professional negligence, media and entertainment law, defamation, takeovers and mergers, employment law, sports law and public international law.
